TommyXGigi takes its final bow at Milan Fashion Week

TommyXGigi revealed its fourth and final collection with its Spring/Summer 18 showcase at Milan Fashion Week yesterday. The theme for the season – speed. This time, the much-loved collaboration between American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and supermodel Gigi Hadid draws from the Hilfiger’s love for motor sports and merges it with Hadid’s jetsetter lifestyle to create a capsule collection featuring the brand’s classic elements teamed with a heavy dose of athleisure.

The line brings together edgy and casual with slouchy pullovers, slick bomber jackets, ramp-meets-street joggers, patchwork denim, sporty crop tops and chunky-soled footwear; all with racing-track inspired checks and stripes in signature Hilfiger red, white, blue and black.

Like its past seasons, the label continues to follow the see-now-buy-now format, making the collection instantly available for purchase after the show. Look out for the visor-hooded windbreaker, distressed ankle jean, colour-blocked leather pants, silk racerback dress, cropped logo sweatshirt, playful checkerboard bathing suit, off-shoulder striped top and heady lace-up skirt. Fans can also purchase TommyXGigi approved eyewear, swimwear, accessories and watches. Think cutesy racetrack gloves, large square-framed sunnies, mini-backpacks and crossbody bags to mix and match with choker-scarves, sporty timepieces, graphic printed platform slides and heeled Chelsea boots.

Thanks to an early lookbook reveal on Tommy.com, customers were able to wishlist their favourite pieces ahead of the actual release. The move also underscored womenswear ambassador and co-designer Gigi Hadid’s ability to boost the brand’s millennial appeal (she’s previously created instant sellout collections). On working with master designer Tommy Hilfiger, Gigi said, “Tommy has been an amazing design mentor and we’ve had a lot of fun creating all our capsules. I’ve learned so much about the importance of executing a design correctly for what I want from each look and finding inspiration in everything around me.”

While one can continue to expect the best from Tommy Hilfiger, it remains to be seen whether this will be Hadid’s foundation for future co-design projects. Undoubtedly, many will keep their fingers crossed.
