Anju Modi played to her strengths with the Manikarnika collection at Couture Week. The line was dominated by intricate embroidery, drawing inspiration from the paintings in the Ajanta-Ellora caves.
The show started with neutrals mixed with ice blues and pastel pinks, followed by a richer colour palette of deep reds and navy blues combined with ivory. We loved the dhoti pants worn with sherwanis (for women) and sheer asymmetrical hemlines, and showstopper Kangana Ranaut’s lehenga and blouse stood out for its restrained opulence and intricate resham work. Modi’s bridal wear was given a more contemporary touch with velvet peep-toe booties and delicate chained headgear that had droplets of semi-precious jewels.
