Lakmé Fashion Week came to a close with Manish Malhotra’s wedding wear collection. Bathed in shades of deep purple and silver (the designer introduced a grey palette in his designs for the first time), and embellished with mirror work and gold embroidery, the lehengas were the standouts of the collection. Designed for the new-age bride, the collection had plenty of deep necks and racerbacks that kept the looks sexy.
Going traditional was Vikram Phadnis. The straight-cut kurta in classic cream, paired with the royal blue velvet palazzos, as well as the multi-textured lehenga featuring a lace skirt, a tie-dyed blouse and a gold embroidered mesh dupatta were noteworthy.
After a 10-year hiatus, Varun Bahl returned to Lakmé Fashion Week, but this time, he decided to veer away from his signature couture to present his diffusion line – a collection of western clothes in subtle shades of black, cream and champagne. Our favourites? The free-flowing, ruffled skirt, contrasted with the structured, sleeveless peplum jacket and the satin dress with Parsi gara embroidery.
Inspired by the sky, Priyadarshini Rao kept things comfy and cool with flowy silhouettes and a refreshing palette of blues; the crushed kurta worn with wide-leg pants and a long, sleeveless jacket won our vote. Meanwhile, Sonaakshi Raaj’s geometric, cutwork blouse, offset by the loose, draped skirt, was a welcome change to her staple sari gowns. Lastly, Verb’s sheer pastel trench got our nod of approval.
