Day two of Lakmé Fashion Week put the spotlight on traditional Indian textiles. And there could be no one better than Sanjay Garg to pull that off. For his first ever runway collection, the designer kept his silhouettes simple to let the textile and design speak for itself. We loved his cropped boxy silk jacket layered over the choli and the innovative dupatta drapes. Another highlight of the day was Krishna Mehta's ethnic collection with a comfy and cool combination of wide palazzos and loose kurtas. The tie-dyed rendition, paired with a matching jacket and the asymmetrical kurta worn over sheer palazzos in classic white and gold were standout pieces. Continuing her love affair with traditional fabrics, Anavila presented a range of Indian wear in linen, cotton and silk. Her saris were the stars of the collection, especially the block-printed sari draped over the bell-sleeve blouse.
On the other hand, Divya Sheth took Persian carpet motifs and hand-painted them across her collection in natural dyes like henna, turmeric and pomegranate – the handwoven, floor-length kurta splashed with blooms came out on top. Marg by Soumitra presented a collection inspired by royalty and had us rethinking conventional Indian silhouettes with his androgynous sherwani juxtaposed against a sheer floral churidar. And finally, Shruti Sancheti let silk take centre stage with her collection of fusion wear. We loved the flowy, cropped trousers offset by the structured jacket, with a belt to highlight the waist.
