India Couture Week kicked off with Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s couture collection, Ferozabad. From bijoux gilets to understated poplin kurtas, Sabyasachi offered up a range for the entire bridal party, the groom and the groomsmen.
Models walked the ramp, which was designed like a vintage train (leading to Ferozabad, we assume), in khadi and tulle saris, crystal-embellished poplin kurtas and ghararas. The classic bandhgala and Nehru jackets were updated with hand-block prints and embroidered sleeves. The draped crêpe de Chine kurta-churidars stood out for their simplicity and effortless design, while the hand-embroidered Florabotanica and fish scale-embroidered tulle underskirt was the hero piece in the more opulent range. And then there were the shades – “Hyderabad pink, evil Burma red and evil green” – that gave life to the zardozi. ELLE loved the choice of accessories, from the organza pocket squares to hand-embroidered clutches – exactly the sort of nuances that make Sabyasachi the go-to designer for brides.
