For his Bridal Week collection, Suneet Varma sought inspiration in Shekhawati – a region in Rajasthan famous for its hand-painted architecture. In true Rajasthani style, the clothes featured mirror-work and a vibrant palette of red and fuchsia in traditional and contemporary silhouettes. We saw ethnic lehengas, anarkalis and very modern palazzo pants and kurtas with thigh-high slits. The designer used aari embroidery and gold and copper threadwork on a collection that started out in bright and bold shades, but was toned down to rich creams and stark navy as the show progressed. A range of OTT accessories, including large earrings and exaggerated hairpins made from beaten gold, complemented the outfits. Kangana Ranaut closed the show in a deep red sari, featuring a risqué embroidered bustier and a velvet dupatta.
