Tarun Tahiliani opened India Bridal Fashion Week with a collection that perfectly married homegrown sensibilities and contemporary silhouettes. Amidst the vibrant oranges, golds and reds, he went offbeat with the use of the colour black; an unusual choice for bridal wear. He also topped off his looks with maang tikka’s, modified into mohawks, adding an edgy element to traditional wear. In terms of styles, the designer offered both - classic options like lehengas and anarkalis as well as avante-garde silhouettes including dhoti-saris, vest coats, textured salwars and ruffled kurtas with long trains. The collection featured Tahiliani’s signature intricate gold work along with funky elements like ostrich feathers, and he kept the focus on ease of movement with the use of light fabrics like sheer silks, tulle and resham. All in all, it was yet another winner by the ace couturier.
