Top 5: Monisha Jaising at India Couture Week 2014
A collection for the edgy, cool bride
Monisha Jaising’s bride is a badass. Case in point, the embroidered leather lehenga that Lisa Haydon wore to close the show. Jaising drew inspiration from the rococo style and the City Palace, Jaipur, and showcased a collection that focused on the wardrobe of the modern, globetrotting bride. The end result was a couture line that was edgy, cool and very, very sexy. We saw sari gowns, lehengas and cocktail dresses with digital print, cutwork, mukaish and Persian embroidery and zardozi in georgette, velvet and heavy satin. With strategically-placed cuts and deep necklines on gowns, as well as sheer panelling on jumpsuits, this collection isn’t one for the blushing bride.
