Tracing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Beauty Evolution Through The Years
“Are you like... checking me out?”
Versatility is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s second name. From being crowned Miss World in 1994 to ruling B-town for years following her debut, there’s nothing she can’t do. Her eyes speak the language of the heart and we can’t help but fall in love. Whether it’s her blockbuster performances or red carpet appearances, Ash doesn’t shy away from experimenting. Over the years, the star has blessed us with some iconic roles and looks. Aishwarya’s beauty is timeless, but her hair and make-up have changed quite a bit through the two decades of her career. From the ’90s skinny eyebrows to her current signature red lip, on her 48th birthday, we zoom in closer to take a look at her beauty evolution:
In 1994, Aishwarya became the second Indian to win the Miss World crown. With a red lip, skinny eyebrows and mascara, she kept things classic yet charming.
In the late ’90s, with the release of films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Taal, we saw Ash sporting winged liner, nude lips and dark lip liner. She embraced the natural texture of her hair while opting for the trendy ’90s blowouts.
Ash made her Cannes debut in 2002 dipped in gold. With glossy rust lips, darker lip liner, matching eyeshadow and soft bronzer- her traditional look mesmerized all.
The star’s thin but defined eyebrows were constant throughout the early aughts. For the New York premiere of her movie Bride and Prejudice in 2005, Aishwariya stunned in super glossy lips, soft curls and heavy mascara.
Dhoom 2 saw Ash turn up the heat with her makeup and hair. Sunehri sported a ‘just back from a tropical holiday’ tan with beach waves, metallic eyeshadow, lip gloss and blinding highlighter.
Dressed up as a quintessential south Indian bride, Aishwarya tied the knot with Abhishek Bacchan in 2007. For the ceremony, she took the soft glam route with kohl-lined eyes, nude lips and flowers in her hair.
For the Cannes red carpet in 2010, Aishwarya went all out with a voluminous up-do. She let her hair take the spotlight and kept her makeup natural with blushed cheeks and a neutral lip.
Bringing Bollywood glam to Cannes in 2014 Ash went with a striking winged liner and a bold red lip. With significantly bushier eyebrows in comparison to the previous years, her make-up game was definitely going through a transformation.
An internet-breaking moment! Aishwarya’s lilac lips for the 2016 Cannes red carpet paired with smokey eyes were the talk of the town world over. There was only one world highlighted in Aishwarya’s beauty dictionary all throughout the 2010’s – experimental.
For her role in the movie Fanney Khan in 2018, Aishwarya dyed her hair deep burgundy and kept the edgy colour through the entire year.
Paris Fashion Week 2019 saw Ash bring the sparkle to the party as she strut down the runway with purple glitter eyes paired with a red lip and a beehive up-do.
In recent years, Aishwarya has gravitated towards the combination of a fiery red lip, jet black winged liner and centre-parted hair as her go-to picks. She is often seen striking a pose on Instagram sporting this classic look.
