Whether they’re exaggerated balloon sleeves, extended sleeves that touch your fingertips, flounce sleeves or the popular cold shoulder, making a statement with your sleeve is now a major trend for summer 2018. A-listers like Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have been giving their accessories a miss and, instead, have been flaunting supersized sleeves — and the same style was observed on the runway. Bobo who showcased at Gen Next used balloon sleeves in his colourful embroidered jackets; Ritu Kumar played with flounce sleeves, bell sleeves and cold shoulder; Rara Avis introduced puffed sleeves, long lantern sleeves and cuff sleeves; Dhruv Kapoor gave us leg of mutton sleeves in her corset shirts. Who doesn’t fancy lightweight layers for summer days, especially when they come in a metallic hues? Seen at Dhruv Kapoor, who styled a metallic parachute trench over a floral printed dress, and at Amrich, where sheer trenches were all the rage.

Whether it was Dhruv Kapoor’s peplum tops, Ritu Kumar’s shimmering gowns or Rara Avis’ jackets and dresses, metallic hues were omnipresent on Day 1. How do you style it without going over the top? Tone it down with neutrals and you’re all set for that sun-downer party.

Bollywood’s celebrities Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandez have already been sighted wearing one. And now, it’s Ritu Kumar and Rara Avis who are pushing forward this trend — but not as an actual bum bag that’s worn around the hips; this is an add-on accessory meant to accentuate your look.
