2018 just called to proclaim itself the year of body positivity, and we don’t even need to think twice before vehemently agreeing. This year, we’ve seen the fashion industry embrace the body positivity movement without inhibitions — from plus-size models like Ashley Graham and Sabina Karlsson opening the Fall 2018 shows for leading designers Prabal Gurung and Christian Siriano to supermodel Gigi Hadid slamming body-shamers on Twitter who called her too skinny — and we’re just happy to see this influence trickling into the film industry, especially Bollywood. With its newest poster, Veere Di Wedding is showing its support for the body positivity movement by having actors with very different body types dressed in swimwear, looking and feeling confident.
It’s a great reminder you don’t need to skinny to look fabulous in a swimsuit. On the one hand, you have the yoga-honed Kareena Kapoor Khan flaunting her well-deserved post-baby abs in a gold bikini, but we were equally thrilled to see the fuller-figured Shikha Talsania looking hot, hot, hot in a red one-piece swimsuit. The takeaway: we don’t need to conform to any preset ideals of beauty because it is our uniqueness that makes us special. Also, did you know it’s possible to lose weight if you love your body a little more?
Veere Di Wedding is the story of four childhood friends, Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor), Avni (Sonam kapoor), Sakshi (Swara Bhaskar) and Meera (Shikha Talsania). In the trailer below, watch how Meera comes out of a changing room wearing a swimsuit layered with a black jacket and how her friends help her come out of her shell.
Here’s to empowered women who empower women.
