Newly-married couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are celebrating their wedding reception in Delhi right now and the duo looks nothing short of royal. Teamed up together in Sabyasachi couture, Anushka is looking as radiant as ever in her red and golden handwoven Benarasi sari.

“I don’t think Indian brides feel complete without wearing the colour red in at least one of their functions,” says Sabyasachi in an Instagram post. “Anushka decided to wear red at her reception! And much to my absolute delight, it was a red Benarasi sari, from the by-lanes of Peeli Kothi in Benaras.” He continues, “I was particularly excited about this look because I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi saris.”

As if that wasn’t symbolic enough, Anushka decided to proudly display her newly-married life with sindoor and a red bindi. “The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful,” says Sabyasachi. Her statement jewellery can be attributed to the designer’s bridal jewellery collection, which features her wearing a heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas.

Virat complements her in a black textured silk signature bandhgala with the house buttons in 18k gold and a white silk kurta paired with handwoven brocade churidaar. “He teamed it with mojris from the Sabyasachi accessories line and a hand embroidered antique pashmina shawl from our ‘Kashmir Revival’ project,” reveals the couturier.

“Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles and handlooms. And I must say the occasion couldn’t be better. I know copies of this sari will flood the entire country in the next few months to come, which also means that a million weavers’ children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you, Anushka!”
