It may have started out as a smart layering tactic to make a smaller waist look fuller, but peplum is now the best trick-silhouette there is. The Dior bar jacket was hot pick back in the '50s. In the ’80s, Princess Diana gave skirt-suits with peplums a shot. And today, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, works similar pieces into her classic wardrobe.
But the silhouette isn’t restricted to skirt-suits today. Fall/Winter 2014 runways gave us different versions: military chic in khakis and greys, worn over trousers at Balmain and Anteprima; small doses of frills at Genny; and Emporio Armani’s noodle-strap peplum dresses.
