Designer Gaurav Gupta is known for his signature brand of grand and fluidly constructed party and wedding wear, along with his ability to flawlessly blend his contemporary aesthetic with Indian wear. Over the past 15 years in the industry, Gupta has created a niche for his eponymous label as a progressive couturier through his sculpture-like garments.
Marking 15 years of his eponymous brand, Gupta added another flamboyant store on our fashion radar last night at the launch of his new store. Located in the 109-year old, restored heritage property—Galleria 1910, this new establishment in Kolkata hosts all of his fab creations in addition to his newest Couture ’19 collection.
The boutique beautifully reflects GG’s inclination towards boundless forms which is often seen in his couture creations. The spacious store spread across 2000sqft, seamlessly creates a contrast of modern and old-world architecture. Bevelled mirror edges, grand chandeliers, and fluid furnishings add to the outlet’s charm. The space reflects Gupta’s interpretation of fantasy palace ruins, complete with mystical references and a cosmic ambience.
When asked about the concept behind his stunning new undertaking—“We have always aimed to open our flagship stores with a unique mix of couture, glamour, aspiration, warmth and welcome. Each of our stores across the country aim to be an extension of the Gaurav Gupta world. I believe through my design, it’s about creating a new culture, a new thinking- whether it’s through our couture forms, techniques or shape,” said the designer.
This flagship joins three other Gaurav Gupta stores in India, two housed in New Delhi and one in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.
