What went into the making of Marion Cotillard’s Oscar dress

Minutes after the best actress nominee spoke to Ryan Seacrest about this dress, Twitter exploded with applause for Cotillard – you know, for being the among the few to say “Dior Haute Couture” right.

Well, she is French. What did they expect?

Turns out the atelier spent a whopping 400 hours on this dress alone. For inspiration, they dug into the archives, and referenced Mr Dior’s scaled dress from 1950. Crafting this openwork jacquard, with hand-chopped cut-work, and embroidering it with sequins was clearly no mean feat.
