We’ve been seeing a new star-favourite on the red carpet: Toni Matičevski. Commit that name to memory, you’ll be hearing it more often. The Aussie designer has suddenly made a splash here, and we’re not complaining. But who is he really?
Matičevski is a homegrown man (and label). He studied fashion at RMIT University, Melbourne, and followed it up by winning the Fashion Group International Award, which gave him a sure shot placement with Donna Karan in New York. Then he made Paris his home for a while, when he worked for two seasons with fashion powerhouse Cerruti. In ’98, he came right back to his roots in Melbourne, and launched his own label.
So far you’ve seen his dresses on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Nimrat Kaur and Priyanka Chopra. Elsewhere, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé, have been spotted too. It’s a label that’s catching on. Fast! And why not? The femininity of his designs and structure is just so damn flattering.
