If at any point through the year, you’ve yelled the words, ‘I need a vacation‘, you’re not alone. For a year that lasted for seemingly 43 months with no respite, 2020 has been an exhausting process. The lack of a break from the confines of our homes hasn’t helped either, and the monotony of staring at the same view everyday is definitely getting to us. The brainchild of Singapore-based couple Sonali Ranjit and Vaishnav Balasubramaniam, the website allows you a peek into the views that people all over the world see every day. WindowSwap’s ‘open a new window somewhere in the world’ button is the answer to all your wanderlust goals in 2020, taking you through different, gorgeous landscapes with every click. There’s a scene from everywhere in the world – think of a gorgeous sunrise over the hills in New Zealand, a lake-view of a Peruvian sunset, even roosters and hens pecking around a coop in Indiana, and if you’re really lucky, a pet popping up on the screen. Filled with sounds of the day to day, it makes the viewer feel as though they’re really there. (And makes for a great daydream you can lose yourself in, for hours on end.)

The quarantine-induced, global collaborative project is not only one of the most positive things to come out of the current situation, but also allows a welcome shift in perspective and truly highlights the spirit of collective effort. It’s a comforting feeling to know that even in a divisive world, people have come together to showcase their favourite moments from their day, to make people feel less alone. Viewing the world from someone else’s eyes is a strangely intimate experience, and adds to a feeling of connectivity that so many have been missing. But most of all, WindowSwap serves as a human reminder that we’re all in this together.
