The stately Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai played host to the India & Middle East regional round of the International Woolmark Prize 2014/15.
An award bestowed upon one menswear and one womenswear designer from across India, Pakistan, Lebanon and UAE, it is determined by a judging panel of prestigious personalities from the fashion industry, including our very own Rahul Mishra, who was the recipient of the International Woolmark Prize last year. Mishra presided over the event, which was hosted by Woolmark as well as e-retail portal, Mytheresa.com.
This year, Emperor 1688 and Rayya Morcos from Bird on a Wire were felicitated in the menswear and womenswear category respectively. They will be showcasing their designs in London and Beijing and will also receive a grant of AU$50,000. The chosen two will further be competing for the International Woolmark Prize and will stand a chance to win an additional AU$1,00,000 and the opportunity to have their pieces stocked with leading retailers across the world.
The event saw the city’s fashion fraternity join the celebration – Carol Gracias, Rocky S, Little Shilpa, Nikhil Thampi, Purab Kohli, Karishma Tanna, Rahul Mishra, Vikram Raizada and Nachiket Barve were all in attendance.
