Istituto Marangoni’s First-Ever Virtual Fashion Showcase Is A Celebration Of Budding Talent

While 2020 has been a challenging time for all, it has also been a period of immense learning, growth, and creativity. And when it comes to creative higher education in fashion, the acclaimed Italian fashion and design school, Istituto Marangoni has kicked it up a notch by not only making all its classes virtual but also by providing its students with a platform to showcase their designs.

In the spirit of fashion shows going digital, Istituto Marangoni Mumbai showcased the collections of its second-year students in a fascinating, futuristic, first of its kind fashion film. Titled Synchronicity, the virtual showcase displayed the talent of young creatives. The collections were a gorgeous, eclectic mix of avant-garde forms, metallics, and fluid silhouettes, each of which highlighted the authenticity, uniqueness, and creativity of the budding designers.

Speaking about the virtual showcase, Mr. Tarun Pandey, COO – Istituto Marangoni, Mumbai said, “We are thrilled to be hosting ‘Synchronicity’, our 1st virtual fashion show that highlights our young designers’ talent at Istituto Marangoni Mumbai. We are really very proud of all the hard work that these young creatives have put into their collections and are very happy to see how well they were received.”

“This virtual event culminates a particularly challenging year where we had to adapt to the current situation by transferring our lessons online, which provided us with a new perspective on teaching and embracing new opportunities. In order to make this experience more special we increased cross-school masterclasses with faculty from our international Marangoni institutes in Europe. While this was done to enhance and manage learning during the pandemic, we plan to continue these even when all students are back at the school. Also, the Mumbai institute organised numerous online panels and interviews locally in India to ensure industry relevance. On the Group level, Istituto Marangoni is doing an ongoing series of talks for our worldwide student community as well,” he added.

Highlights from the new creations included a collection titled ‘Un’ Gender by Jharna Panchal, which was inspired by the LGBTQIA community and strongly referred to the idea of equality with respect to gender and sexual orientation, along with Anushka Pillai’s collection, Manic, which was inspired by the undulating mind. The showcase also featured designs by some of the most promising talents from the school, namely, Manshu Kumari, Nitya Sasidharan, Gunjan Borad, Dhananjit Brahma, Niyati Chhaya, Dehna Deepak, Jivika Goyal, Ritu Jain, Nikhil Kohle, Darshika Singh, Darshita Vakharia, Devanshi Khetani, Tanya Sethia, Garima Bhadra, and Ishita Gupta.

What completely blew us away by the showcase, was the fact that every single one of these collections was developed and produced under the lockdown. The fact that the second-year students managed to pull off a feat like this is a tremendous accomplishment, and serves as a reminder of their passion for the arts.
