Artworks of esteemed figures like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Anish Kapoor will headline Art Mumbai 2024, making this edition a landmark event in the global art calendar. The fair’s growing international stature is further highlighted by the participation of nine distinguished global galleries, including Galleria Continua, Ben Brown Fine Arts, and Aicon Gallery. These galleries will unveil a carefully curated selection of both modern and contemporary masterpieces, creating a platform for dialogue between local and global artistic expressions. As Mumbai continues to establish itself as a cultural nexus, Art Mumbai 2024 offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the best of both global and Indian art, showcasing the city’s dynamic role in the evolving art world.

Speaker Series

The Art Mumbai Speaker Series, supported by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, will further build on the insightful discussions from last year, offering an even deeper exploration of art as a form of cultural expression. This year’s sessions will cover a rich array of fascinating topics, from shifting trends in art collecting to the diverse influences shaping the Indian modernist movement. Among the must-attend events is the session titled ‘Gateway to Influence: Mumbai’s Cultural Soft Power,’ scheduled for November 16, 2024. Key highlights will include the debunking of Mumbai’s unique role as a hub of artistic innovation, the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and art, and a broader understanding of South Asian art. On the same day, Karan Johar will take the stage for an engaging conversation about the vibrant fusion of art, culture, and the city itself, offering a fresh perspective on Mumbai’s creative ecosystem.

Sculpture Walk

The Sculpture Walk at Art Mumbai 2024 promises to be a major attraction, with an expanded selection of over 20 sculptures scattered throughout the fair’s outdoor spaces. Supported by the RMZ Foundation, this immersive installation invites visitors to explore art in an engaging, open-air setting. Featuring works such as Wolf’s Sea of Poppies, Monali Meher’s Unknown Landscape, and Julian Opie’s Walking Figures, the Walk highlights the dialogue between urban spaces and nature. Selected from over 40 submissions, these sculptures will be displayed at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, offering galleries a fresh opportunity to present their art outside traditional indoor settings.

Spot The Difference

Tejal Patni’s installation, Vichitra “Spot the Difference”, is set to make a statement at ART Mumbai from 14th to 17th November. Inspired by Nana Patekar’s iconic Krantiveer monologue, Patni challenges us to rethink our perceptions of difference. The display, featuring blood bags and a looping video, forces us to face the reality that our biological essence is the same, no matter our background. With a playful twist on the childhood game Spot the Difference, Patni’s work invites us to reflect on how we’ve internalised divisions that don’t really exist. It’s a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.
