Beauty Editor’s Picks: ‘My Hair Needs To Grow Back’ Edition

BANNER IMG

Once upon a time, in a world not too long ago, my hair cascaded down my back like a majestic waterfall. A waterfall that had unfortunately gone through a drought. Yes, it was long—long enough to be the envy of every Disney princess, but alas, it had the texture of a neglected broomstick that had swept through one too many dusty corners. So, off to the hairstylist, I went, expecting a trim, a little nip here, a tuck there. But what did I get instead? A chop. A proper, unapologetic chop. You know how they show you an inch between their fingers and then take off three? Yeah, that.

Now, don’t get me wrong, my hair is healthier than it’s ever been—shiny, bouncy, and free from split ends. But it’s also shorter than it’s ever been, and we all know what that means. It’s time to start Operation Grow-Back. Here’s the arsenal I’m using to coax my hair into growing long again—products that promise to take my strands from shoulder-grazing to waist-waving, with a healthy dose of humour along the way.

Ouai Scalp Serum

If my scalp were a garden, this serum would be the Miracle-Gro. It’s the kind of product that makes you feel like a mad scientist as you drop it onto your scalp, massaging it in with the hopes that your follicles will get the memo: we need growth, stat.

Aveda Invati Advanced Exfoliating Shampoo

This shampoo doesn’t just cleanse—it trains your scalp to behave. It’s like sending your scalp to boot camp but without the yelling drill sergeant. You’ll feel the tingling and know it’s working, coaching your hair to be stronger, healthier, and most importantly—longer.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

This conditioner is my hair’s best friend—the kind that always has your back and tells you how amazing you look. Packed with a blend of vitamins, oils, and proteins, it’s like giving my hair a spa day every time I shower.

Kérastase Resistance Extentioniste Thermique

Before my hair faces the daily assault of blow-drying, straightening, or curling, this is what I arm it with. This leave-in treatment protects against heat damage, so my hair can focus on growing, not breaking. Plus, it smells like a salon in a bottle—who doesn’t want that?

Fable & Mane HoliRoots Hair Oil

This oil is like yoga for my hair—calming, centring, and utterly rejuvenating. Infused with the goodness of Ashwagandha and Dashmool, it soothes my scalp and strengthens my strands. It’s the kind of ritual you look forward to.

Protouch LED Hair Growth Therapy Comb

This isn’t just a gadget—it’s my hair’s new best friend. Using red light therapy, this device stimulates hair follicles and is known to boost hair growth. I know red light therapy is pretty powerful, so I am a willing participant. Plus, it’s super easy to use—just a few minutes a day, and I’m on my way to longer, thicker hair, I think.

Kérastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Serum

This serum is like a shot of espresso for my hair. It’s packed with plant-based stem cells and other goodies that revitalise the scalp and strengthen hair at the root. And it helps that it looks REALLY good.

Forest Essentials Ayurvedic Herb Enriched Head Massage Oil

When I need to get back to my roots—literally and figuratively—this oil is my go-to. With a blend of herbs like Bhringraj and Amla, it’s like a warm hug for my scalp, promoting hair growth and keeping my hair healthy from the inside out.

Available on forestessentials.com

Now that we’ve covered the essentials, let’s talk about the other stuff—because good hair doesn’t just happen by magic. It’s about consistency, patience, and a little bit of self-care. Regular trims (just a dusting, not a chop – I am not going to the same guy again), a balanced diet, plenty of water, and yes, a good night’s sleep all play a part in keeping those strands healthy and growing. And don’t forget to show your hair some love with the occasional scalp massage or hair mask—because at the end of the day, your hair is like a plant, and it needs a little TLC to grow. So, let’s get to it—long, luscious locks are just a few good habits (and great products) away. If you want to join me on this operation, say ‘operation grow-back’ in my DMs and let’s grow it back together.
