2024 was the year of blush, and honestly, it was about time. With 'IT' girls like Sabrina Carpenter and Hailey Bieber rocking the rosy glow in ways we hadn’t seen before, it felt like every cheekbone on the planet was getting the love it deserved. Blush became the hero of our makeup routines, transforming from a mere afterthought to the star of the show. Sabrina's blush blindness to Hailey’s fresh, glowing cheeks, blush was everywhere and we saw blush trends evolve into something extra—frosty, glazed finishes and mouth-watering Neapolitan shades. Let’s look back at the blush trends that went viral this year—and I may or may not have tried them all.

Neapolitan Blush

You know that moment when you’re standing in front of the freezer, trying to decide between chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream? Well, what if you didn’t have to choose? Neapolitan blush is where the best of all three worlds come together in a dreamy gradient. This trend layers three distinct shades—rich brown, soft white, and a fun pink—into a harmonious, ice cream-inspired look that’s somehow both nostalgic and modern.

Glazed Blush

Glazed blush is a trend that’s not about the colour so much as the finish. If you’ve ever been tempted to swipe a bit of highlighter over your blush, then this trend is for you. It is dewy, luminous, and impossibly fresh. The key to getting it right is using a creamy blush formula that has a bit of sheen, followed by a layer of highlighter. Because who doesn’t want that glassy, glowing finish?

Doughnut Blush

If you’ve got a thing for the deliciously indulgent, then doughnut blush is about to be your new obsession. Inspired by the beautiful roundness of a doughnut, this blush style creates a soft halo of colour on your cheeks with a slight sun-kissed vibe. The trick is to place the blush right on the apple of your cheek, blending it out toward the temples and avoiding any harsh lines. I loved how playful and whimsical this trend felt. Doughnut blush gives you that flushed look that says, “I’m so cute, I could be on a pastry box,” without the sugar crash.

Candy Cane Blush

Candy cane blush is the festive flair we all needed in our lives (and on our faces) this year. Inspired by the stripes of a candy cane, this blush style creates a two-tone effect on your cheeks. This look was a little out of my comfort zone, but once I got the hang of it, I couldn’t stop wearing it. The key is to apply the blush in parallel stripes, blending each hue so they merge without creating harsh lines. It is perfect for when you want holiday vibes—or anytime you want to feel like a festive candy treat. There’s something so fun about the way it instantly grabs attention without being too overwhelming.

Alongside these fun trends, there were a few other blush styles that had their moment in the spotlight. From the "boyfriend blush" technique to the "sunset blush" explosion of pinks and oranges, the trends just kept coming. Blush may be a small step in our makeup routine, but this year it sure wasn’t an afterthought. It was the star of the show!
