Confession time: this writer is the daughter of a certified jewellery girlie. Growing up, the first thing that my mom brought up whenever we discussed a marriage (be it onscreen or in real life) was the jewellery worn to the festivities. And I’m not talking just “she wore this and he wore that” kind of discussion. This was a proper MET Gala level judgement. So, when Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant tied the knot on 12th July in what was the biggest wedding I’ll probably witness for the rest of my life, mom and I had a lot to discuss.
Over the weekend, we’ve had a slew of looks, from our favourite actors to sportspersons and politicians and even the Kardashians. Below, I list some of my (and mom’s) favourite jewellery looks from the Ambani wedding.
1. Radhika Merchant
Saying that I am OBSESSED with Radhika Merchant’s wedding look is seriously an understatement and everything about this look enhances her beauty so much. The radiant bride paired a glorious gold hath-phool from Jaipur Jewels with heirloom jewellery that three generations of women from her family wore to their weddings (This is peak wedding-core guys; Alexa, play Kudmayi).
2. Janhvi Kapoor
In the past few days, Janhvi Kapoor has established herself as the bonafide queen of wedding fashion, and we are not complaining. Our favourite look is this one that she wore to the mehendi ceremony, but this simple Mahesh Notandass turquoise choker that she donned with this saree is my personal favourite.
3. Nita Ambani
We all thought that this emerald necklace that Nita Ambani wore to the pre-wedding celebrations was unbeatable amongst her vast emerald collection, and boy were we wrong. The proud mother-in-law attended the wedding in an emerald jewellery set, comprised of a necklace, bangles, earrings, ring and a gorgeous bajubandh.
4. Hardik Pandya
Men rocking jewels is my favourite genre. Add to that Hardik Pandya’s choice of wearing a heart-shaped emerald and diamond necklace by Mahesh Notandass to the wedding, and I am sold.
5. Isha Ambani
Isha Ambani is my favourite fashion girlie in the Ambani family, and every one of her looks have served. My favourite jewellery looks is this Navratna set that stylist Anaita Shroff Adjania curated for her on the wedding night. The full set features nine different jewels, each one representing a planet according to Vedic Astrology. Seven are on the necklace, while two others are on each earring (which is why she wore different coloured earrings, in case you noticed).
6. Priyanka Chopra
Bvlgari queen Priyanka Chopra attended the wedding on the first day and single-handedly stole the show. The Bajirao Mastani actress paired her yellow lehenga with minimalist jewellery from the house’s archives, including the famous Serpenti and Fiorever collections.
7. Shah Rukh Khan
Brooches have become a menswear jewellery staple because of how effortlessly they amp up any outfit, and Shah Rukh Khan’s antique Victorian brooch by Falguni Mehta was definitely a show stealer.
8. Anant Ambani
In tandem with his love for animals (ICYMI, he founded the world’s largest animal reserve, Vantara, shortly before the wedding), Anant Ambani wore a 720 carat Zambian emerald brooch by Heeramaneck and Sons with a Cartier Panther on it for his wedding ceremony.
9. Suhana Khan
Suhana Khan looked nothing short of a princess in this outfit, and the light green and baby pink choker from Mahesh Notandass that she wore to the wedding further softens the look.
10. Manushi Chillar
You can never go wrong with pearls, and actress and former Miss World Manushi Chillar shows us how. Set in gold, the Mahesh Notandass pearl necklace perfectly captures the essence of the sheer golden sari that she wore to the Shubh Ashirwad ceremony.
