From their encounter on the sets of Green Lantern and going on double dates to now being doting parents of four kids and a heavily documented roasting streak on the ‘gram, it’s safe to say that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are the true definition of couple goals.
And this is coming from someone who cringes at the term itself–so you know this is the real deal. We’re all hardcore Lively-Reynolds loyalists in the house. With Deadpool slated to release soon and the two gracing all the media engagements hand-in-hand, I couldn’t help but stalk their socials and go down a rabbit hole of their relationship history, only to drown in mush and more mush. Here’s why they’re the ultimate best:
Reason Number 1: Equal Parts Flirting And Roasting

They’re always pulling each other’s legs (respectfully), boasting a competitive ratio of flirting and roasting, and I think it’s integral to the growth of every relationship. It’s that sense of playfulness that somewhat keeps the spark alive and lends room for varied conversations. I’m no relationship psychologist, but I am a hopeless romantic at heart. And the more they engage online, the more I will simp. (Also, note: their PR teams haven’t paid me to write this; I genuinely love them. But I am also open to exploring the payment route if anyone’s asking. *squints eyes*)
Reason Number 2: ‘That Blake Speech’
This video of Lively giving a speech about Reynolds at the 36th American Cinematheque Award is a gift that keeps giving, and yes, I have it saved on my phone. She gushes about his dedication and says, “I am his home, and our girls are his home. And just like that 19-year-old boy, he races home. Whether it’s from across the globe or a meeting across the street, he is hard-wired to get home. If he came home from set not in his wardrobe, we would be very concerned. Soaked in mud, fake blood, real blood, prosthetic scars, superhero suits, tap shoes, or clown makeup, daddy always comes home.” So wholesome.
Reason Number 3: Their Unmatchable MET Gala Streak
Whenever these two skip the MET Gala, I don’t even pay attention because they’re the famed veterans. They deliver on sartorial grounds and give the paps content to milk throughout the year. What’s to complain? While their 2014 debut is undoubtedly the most iconic one, the 2022 one takes the cake, especially because of Reynolds’ expression. I need my man to take notes.

The best thing about this couple is their never-ending streak of wishing each other birthdays in the goofiest ways. They deserve a medal or two for keeping us entertained! From Lively posting a duo picture of Ryan (Gosling!!) and Reynolds (with most of his face missing in the frame) and captioning it, “Happy Birthday Baby!” To Reynolds pulling the same stunts with Lively, it’s adorable to see a Hollywood couple squash stereotypes by actually loving each other. God forbid, if they don’t work out, I’m giving up on the idea of love.
