Maldives – the land of Instagrammable beaches, swanky resorts, and as of this new year, the place where you’ll find major Bollywood celebrities. While us mere mortals rang in the new year with a glass of wine (or seven) with our closest pals, our fave celebs flocked to the island to celebrate NYE – although to be fair, they have been visiting the location since October. And while Bollywood jetting off to jealousy-inducing locations isn’t exactly new (re: the Swiss Alps) this one hit differently. You know, with us having spent half the year indoors and whatnot! But so many of them there, makes us raise the question – is the Maldives the celeb-approved vacation spot for 2021? Read on ahead to find out. Spoiler alert: Brace yourself for some vacation envy.
First up, we had Disha Patani flying to the Maldives for some Diwali R&R. Little did we know, she was about to set off a trend that would determine the course of most Bollywood holidays ahead.

And while we can all unanimously agree that the Maldives seems like the place to be right now – whether you’re in the mood for some beaches, or celeb-spotting – we have follow-up questions. Did they all hang out together? Is there a secret Bollywood squad we don’t know about? Was it all planned? Do you think they’ll let me come with them next time if I ask nicely?
While these are the questions that clearly keep us up at night, until we have more answers, we’re just happy to bask in the glory of this star-studded vacation.
