Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja talks to Elle about her love for jewellery, favourite pieces and this beautiful collection:
Have you always loved jewellery?
Yes, always! My mother designing jewellery and it’s a love that I have inherited.
What is the most treasured piece you own?
There is a necklace that my father had gifted to my mother on her 50th birthday that she has given to me. That’s very precious because it’s beautiful and because the story behind it makes it even more meaningful.
Why is your association with Zoya special?
Zoya is a brand I have long admired. In many ways, Zoya is redefining the way fine jewellery is experienced in India. Every piece from Zoya has a story behind it. It is meaningful, and beautifully crafted, like wearable art. I have been to their stores, and the experience is very luxurious, and very warm. It’s an honour to represent the brand as its ambassador.
What do you love most about this collection?
I love a good design story, and this is a beautiful thought translated in simple design with great craftsmanship into timeless jewellery. Women today play so many roles, and deal with many expectations from society. The design inspiration for My Embrace comes from the idea of a woman embracing all her hues and just joyfully celebrating herself. That’s lovely.
What’s your favourite piece from Zoya?
I love this necklace I’m wearing… I think it’s a very beautiful piece with a distinctive shape. It can be worn singularly or stacked, and it effortlessly elevates your everyday style. It’s a signature design from Zoya that I’m certain will become a classic.
The next thing you have your eye on?
I’m looking forward to creating a bespoke piece of fine jewellery with Zoya. The brand has very talented designers, and I have always loved jewellery – I would like to create something that is uniquely me with Zoya.
