Chanel’s Haute Couture Show Serves Statement Capes, Bows And Bridal-Core

Chanel’s Haute Couture AW24/25 show in Paris once again reaffirmed the house’s ability to effortlessly merge elegance with innovation – even without Virginie Viard at the helm. Following the unexpected news that the Artistic Director was stepping down from her role after five years (and three decades as part of the team), Chanel’s latest collection was the work of the maison’s ‘Fashion Creation Studio’ according to show notes, unveiled yesterday at the historic Palais Garnier opera house.

Suitably dramatic and richly embroidered, the collection permeated the house codes with an opulent, operatic and romantic twist – and, of course, it wouldn’t be a Chanel show without some tweed, elegantly tailored blazers and knee-length skirts. But there were a few reoccurring themes that caught our attention above all: namely, capes, bows and bridal-core.

Ditch The Coat: It’s All About Capes

Haute Couture

It might feel like an odd time to be thinking about outerwear, but it’s never too early to start planning your autumn/winter wardrobe – and if Chanel’s Haute Couture show taught us one thing, it’s that next season will be all about capes. The maison presented this chic coat alternative in a number of moder guises on the catwalk, from sleek and minimalist to elaborate and embellished, cut to various lengths and paired with tailored suits and billowing dresses.

Tie It Up: A Supersize Hair Bow

Haute Couture

From the gold mini bows embroidered onto a black knee-length dress to the supersize bows fastened into models’ hair, Chanel continues to put its weight behind the ultra-feminine detail that has long since become synonymous with the French brand. As the trend for all things ‘cute’ continues apace, Chanel is, as ever, here to offer its more elevated and luxurious take – and it’s the best way to add a touch of dainty Parisian chic to even the most basic of outfits. You don’t have to wait until the winter to start rocking this trend, either.

Not Just For Weddings: The White Dress

The white dress is having a moment right now, even at Chanel Haute Couture – and we’re not just talking about the Princess Diana-esque wedding gown that closed the show. Chanel ambassador and front row guest Keira Knightley showed us how to seamlessly work a bridal-looking number in an everyday setting, while on the catwalk we saw a number of wedding-worthy white looks including a sophisticated, silk-rimmed trouser suit (perfect for a low-key town hall ‘do), and a voluminous cream ruffled cape dramatic enough to add a sense of occasion to just about anything.
