Nope, this is not just another story putting the coquette aesthetic on a pedestal in a swarm of over-populated cores and styles. It’s been around for a while, and will stick around for quite some more, we reckon. But what’s of note is the subtle influence of this micro-trend on the Indian fashion landscape and how our homegrown labels have taken it upon themselves to come up with newer, forward reinterpretations to cater to the Indian audience.

While the bows and plaids are an obvious mainstay, intricate lacework coupled with techniques like chikankari put forth an amalgamation of sorts. We’re now seeing saris and lehengas adopt some coquette attributes, a welcome breath of fresh air from all the maximalism we’re conditioned into liking.

But if you really think hard enough, the chiffon saris and pearl necklaces, especially popularised by Maharani Gayatri Devi were a precursor to what we’re seeing blossom today.
