Divya Khosla Kumar’s film journey has been unpredictable but inspiring; what started as a stand-out performance in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo pivoted to award-winning direction with Yaariyan. With the recent release of Yaariyan 2, Kumar has bagged accolades for her performance, which stays with you long after the movie.
Between acting, choreography and editing , we start with the obvious question: which is her favourite role? “I enjoy each one of them. If you get to be a part of the filmmaking process in any way, it’s one of the biggest honours. I would love to direct more as I enjoy it; however, right now, I have some excellent acting offers and great scripts that I’m very excited about. I have already shot a film that will be announced soon. I’m very excited about what’s in store.”
Divya credits her endless drive and pursuit of perfection to an unending love for cinema and a deep passion for continued personal growth. We see this dedication in her portrayal of Laadli in Yaariyan 2, a character that Divya believes embodies her. “I think my process is simple. I need to connect with the script and character; if that happens, I go all in. In terms of the characters I play, I like to challenge myself.
Divya is also known for making unconventional fashion choices. “My advice would be to wear something you’re comfortable in,” she shares. “I won’t let anyone simply choose my outfits. Of course, there are stylists to help, but I like to be a part of the process and give my input. I make sure I’m comfortable with what I’m wearing. I do not believe in following trends because until you’re feeling your best, it’s impossible to achieve a stylish or glamorous look. Choose comfort when you dress, and rest will follow.”
Donning multiple roles can often open the floodgates of criticism and trolls; however, Divya has learned to take them in her stride. “There will always be someone trying to put you down, which still happens to me. But the thing you have to remember is to put up a good fight and believe in yourself. Don’t lose hope. If you believe in yourself and keep working hard, the sky’s the limit.”
With the new year rolling in, Divya is ready to ace all facets of the entertainment world, shatter glass ceilings and set her own rules, and we are here to watch her ace every role she plays!
