DIY Masks To Treat Dry And Lifeless Hair In Winter

DIYHairMask3

It’s not just your skin and lips that need extra care during winter. Hair tends to get rougher and dryer, and the scalp can get flaky and itchy during the cold months. This is because of the lack of moisture in the air. And the hot showers are definitely not helping either. To restore the health and shine of your mane, you need to up your hair care game by masking at least once a week. These homemade DIY masks come to the rescue.

1. Avocado, Egg & Coconut Oil

Avocado is full of good fats and biotin that instantly moisturises dry hair. Coconut oil contains hydrophilic lipids that repairs damaged cuticles and egg is a good source of vitamin A and E, which helps strengthen the roots.

Blend this together and apply it to your scalp and hair. Cover with a shower cap and leave it on for 45 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.

2. Banana & Olive Oil

This is the easiest mask to whip up as both ingredients are easily available in the kitchen. Banana is rich in minerals and vitamins, and olive oil is enriched with vitamin E, together they add shine and moisture to dull and dry hair.

Take one whole ripe banana, and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Mash it up with a fork until it’s a lump-free puree. Apply the mask on the scalp and hair, leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.

3. Ghee & Almond Oil

Ghee is a go-to natural remedy for winter skin and hair care. It has deep conditioning properties and is rich in vitamins. It hydrates and smoothens frizz, and makes the mane silky. Almond oil is a rich source of vitamin E and antioxidants. Together both ingredients restore the health of the hair.

Mix the two and massage it onto the scalp and hair length. Leave it on for 2 hours and rinse with a gentle shampoo and conditioner.

4. Milk & Honey

A great combo for damaged hair, milk contains lactic acid that provides hydration, and also contains amino acids, protein, iron, zinc and vitamin B12. Honey on the other hand is an excellent humectant and also contains keratin that strengthens and nourishes hair.

Apply this with a hair dye brush, or put it in a spray bottle and spritz all over the hair. Leave it on 15-20 mins and rinse.

5. Mayonnaise & Grape Seed Oil

This is a great mask for those with curly and wavy hair, suffering from excessive dryness. Mayonnaise is made with oil, egg, vinegar and egg. All these ingredients are beneficial for the hair and scalp. Grapeseed oil is a great moisturiser and doesn’t weigh down the hair.

Take ½ cup mayonnaise and add a teaspoon of grapeseed oil. Mix it together and apply it to the hair. Leave it for 30 minutes before washing it off.
