Dressing Like A Diva: Lessons From Beyoncé’s Audacious Stage And Red Carpet Style

Beyoncé

Beyoncé. Cultural icon, singer supremo, and fashion royalty. Also, my inspiration growing up. That woman has single-handedly revolutionised the music landscape, especially for the black women who so passionately levelled the playing field before her. She’s a brand. An all-encompassing, trendsetting brand that other fashion brands will easily fight a war for, given there’s a minor scope that she might even look at them. Gaurav Gupta, you star.

While her red carpet style is revered for its audacious sensibility, her on-onstage style for the Renaissance tour flipped a new page in her sartorial history with its highly experimental mandate and drive to deliver the best, just when you thought it couldn’t get any better. Here’s a look at Beyoncé’s best fashion moments of all time.

Designed in partnership with costume designer Shiona Turini, this custom Loewe catsuit with matching rubber opera gloves and the brand’s iconic trompe l’oeil hands motif was one of the most striking outfits from the opening night of her tour. Beyoncé accessorised the ensemble with dainty jewellery from Tiffany & Co.

Lensed in custom Schiaparelli designed by fashion royalty Daniel Roseberry, Beyoncé’s fit for the 63rd Grammy Awards was a masterclass in forgoing traditional silhouettes, like the usual floor-sweeping red gown you see every day. The black leather and gold meld effortlessly and offer a welcome change on the sartorial grounds.

A moment. One of the heaviest gowns Miss B had worn till like 2015, this Givenchy Haute Couture masterpiece by Riccardo Tisci boasted a striking back cutout and bejewelled train. The tasteful sheerness of it all-stunning. She made sure her blue winged liner was on point and curled her hair before styling it into an ultra-high ponytail for her beauty look.

Beyoncé’s neon green, hooded couture gown designed by Gaurav Gupta, which included a sculpted bodice, flowing skirt, and a high-leg slit is one for the books. I remember Indian media collectively losing it that night, as soon as the press releases hit our inbox.

The singer was seen paying homage to her ‘Beyhive’ fan base by donning a black and yellow chrome degradé bustier, matching leggings, a chrome bee headpiece, and black vinyl gloves—all designed by Casey Cadwallader, exclusively for Mugler.

During the second act of her show at Soldier Field in Chicago, Beyoncé also made her debut in this special silver lamé leotard and cape. The look was created in association with stylist Karen Langley, drawing inspiration from Lanvin’s illustrious past as well as the extraterrestrial elements of the trip.

One thing about Beyoncé, she will experiment, when it comes to silhouettes. I mean, the just look at the voluminous insert that can easily look like a craft project gone wrong but given it’s her, it looks great. Love the addition of gloves, adds depth to the look altogether.

The artist also made her debut in this custom Gucci corseted bodysuit in black faille with draped crystal fringe and duchesse satin embellishments for a show in Amsterdam. The hat stays on, always.
