I Swapped My Wired Earphones With The New Dyson OnTrac And Here’s My Review

Dyson

I love my me-time with music—it’s all about indulging in my playlist and detaching from everything else in that moment. Ever since I got my personal phone, which was quite late compared to my school friends, I’ve always preferred wired earphones. Not only they are the coolest accessories, but I’m also a bit lazy and don’t want to spend time waiting for another device to charge on the nightstand. So, this Dyson product definitely had some big boxes to tick.

At first glance, the Dyson OnTrac headphones look like they’ve come straight out of The Matrix or some other sci-fi movie. The colour, design, and structure all scream high fashion. Honestly, if they ever want to collaborate with a luxury brand, they could totally pull off some Prada runway vibes with these headphones. Devil wears Dyson?

Anyone who saw me walking through the office with these headphones probably thought I was on a call or in a meeting. In reality, I was just enjoying a Carlos Sainz thirst trap reel, with Sabrina Carpenter playing in the background. Not only are these headphones big enough to grab attention (perfect for avoiding small talk), but they also look so cool that nobody can ignore them.

Also, if I am be being honest, Dyson isn’t the first brand you’d think of for headphones, but their new OnTrac model is shaking things up. Think of it as the more chill sibling to the Dyson Zone—lighter on your head and little easier on your wallet, focusing solely on delivering solid audio vibes.

The Design

Let’s dive into the design: these headphones are big, bold, and ready to make a statement. The cushy headband is a dream for marathon listening sessions, adjusting perfectly to fit your noggin. The ear cups hug your ears nicely without making you feel like you’re in a sauna. Plus, you can swap out the metal casings and cushions to match your style or outfits.

Technical aspects

On the tech side, the left ear cup features a power button that doubles as a pairing helper, while the right has a nifty toggle for play/pause, volume control, and skipping tracks. Both cups have microphones that enhance the noise-cancelling feature, activated with a quick double tap—cue the dramatic “suction” sound that kicks in, leaving you in your own little sound bubble. It’s effective, but you can still hear background noises, like your roommate’s keyboard clacking or the hum of a fan, if you’re not jamming out.

Levelling Up The Musical Experience

The most impressive thing about the Dyson OnTrac is definitely the sound range. Funny enough, I was vibing to Taylor Swift’s All Too Well (10 minutes version) while checking these out. The OnTrac headphones really bring out the layers, letting you soak in the piano’s beauty and the guitar tuned punch of Swift’s vocals.

When the song ramps up, you can totally feel those shifts in energy, capturing every bit of raw emotion in her voice. Even during the big moments, the headphones keep everything crystal clear, so you can really dive into the story while feeling the sound wrap around you.

When I asked Jake Dyson, the brand’s chief engineer, about the sound experience, he mentioned that Indian music, especially Bollywood, features rich background scores that allow various instruments to resonate and linger in your ears. He emphasised that these headphones are specifically designed for those who want to immerse themselves in that captivating musical experience fully.

If you connect it with the Dyson app, you can turn off noise cancellation or switch to transparency mode, plus tweak the equalizer with three preset options. And let’s not forget call quality—it’s crisp and clear, though it automatically switches to transparency mode when you’re on the phone.

Priced at Rs 44,900, the Dyson OnTrac is a premium pick for music lovers who want to keep their style on point. With a whopping 55 hours of battery life, you can charge these bad boys just once before a long journey and not stress about recharging (my favourite part). They’re definitely the sleekest headphones around, even if they could use a few tweaks for hardcore audiophiles.

The Verdict

Now, the final verdict: Am I ready to spend Rs 44,900 on these? I can’t say yes, but I can’t say no either. On the one hand, Dyson has a reputation for newer updates and high performance that’ll keep your headphones evolving—pretty dope if they actually deliver. On the other hand, there are so many brands out there that cost half as much and offer almost (but not quite) similar sound quality.

Ultimately, if you want a stylish, sturdy pair of headphones that sound great, turn heads, and let you customise your look, these could be your jam. But if you’re just after solid audio without the hefty price tag, you might want to shop around. It all depends on your priorities and bank account.
