ELLE India: Editor’s Note For The Luxury Issue

What does luxury mean to you? The most obvious response often involves brands we’d love to own, destinations we’d like to visit, or lifestyles we wish we had. The common theme in all of these is experiences. Luxury is more often than not an experience—the way it makes us feel. With this issue of ELLE, we’ve tried to capture that essence in various forms, taking luxury away from the obvious realm of things and speaking to people and brands that define luxury in their own way.

From Fabergé’s 182 years of legacy to the future generation of Indian fashion houses (Anita and her son Yash Dongre), our fashion pages highlight how luxury is being redefined in new ways. Our trend pages feature a jewellery shoot with the finest brands in the country, but they also hold a social message. Turn the pages to find out more.

Our beauty section explores homegrown journeys and global brands, offering insights into the best in skincare, makeup, and wellness.

Our cover star, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, embodies the idea that luxury means different things to different people. Luxury for her lies in resilience.

Emerging from a tough personal battle in the last few years, Prabhu stands strong in her newfound power. “I always thought I didn’t want the last three years to have happened, but now I feel that you have to deal with whatever life throws at you. And as long as you come out of it, you have won. I wouldn’t have it any other way because I feel stronger and more rooted than ever. That’s because I went through the fire to get here,” she says.

Our lifestyle pages promise to take you places—from the snowy Alps in Courchevel to luxurious trains in Vietnam, there’s an experience for everyone.

As you pick up this issue, I hope you are able to find your own definition of luxury— beyond the boundaries of brands and expenses, within the life that truly keeps you happy.
