At the ELLE Beauty Weekender presented by Tata CLiQ, we are celebrating all things beauty and wellness with Namrata Purohit. An ardent fitness enthusiast, she is an Indian Pilates instructor who co-founded The Pilates Studio with her father. Ahead of her participation at the three-day virtual event, find out her answers to our quick rapid fire.
ELLE: What are your thoughts on Pilates as an exercise?
Namrata Purohit (NP): Pilates is one of the safest ways to exercise. Pilates was started for men at war and then transformed for ballet and contemporary dancers. Whenever one does Pilates, they can get strong like a warrior and achieve the lean, long, flexible body of a dancer. It is an intelligent form of exercise.
ELLE: What are your top three ways to calm yourself down?
NP: Workout, dance and spending time with animals.
ELLE: How can one navigate the ill effects of social media usage?
NP: I think one should minimise the time spent on social media and follow only pages that add value in some way. Be it just positivity, workout inspiration or anything that makes you smile. I think it’s about just being aware and filtering what needs to be filtered and not paying heed to everything.
ELLE: What does wellness mean to you personally?
NP: Wellness is everything, physical, mental and spiritual. It encompasses it all. I think it’s a state of being where everything feels in sync, and all states of being are free and happy.
ELLE: What is that one healthy practice or ritual that you religiously follow?
NP: I listen closely to my mind and body.
