If you, like us, finished last episodes of the fourth season of Emily in Paris quicker than you could say ‘La vie est belle’, then you’ll be pleased to know that the series has been renewed for a fifth season.
Following the release of the second part of the fourth season, Netflix confirmed that the series would be making a return for another drama-filled season.
Yes, for all of the questions that remain unanswered, there will be a fifth outing to the hit series that first graced the small screen in 2020. While little has been confirmed about Emily in Paris season five, this is everything we know so far.
What will the plot of ‘Emily in Paris’ season five be?
While little is currently known about the exact plot of the fifth season, in a promotional video Lily Collins, who plays the titular Emily Cooper, can be seen saying, ‘There’s no place like Rome,’ suggesting that Emily may well look to swap the City of Lights permanently for the Italian capital.
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Collins said she’s looking forward to seeing what happens between her character and new beau Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).
‘Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,’ she added. ‘We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.’
The series’ creator, Darren Star, also confirmed that the fifth season will explore Emily and Marcello’s relationship. ‘I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season,’ he told Tudum.
‘After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed,’ Netflix said in a synopsis, summarising the fourth season’s premise before announcing the confirmation of a fifth.
At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funds run dry, they’re forced to get thrifty. Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of. As old patterns clash with new complications, Emily feels drawn to a potential new love interest… and a new city.
Who will star in ‘Emily in Paris’ season five?
While exact cast confirmations are currently unknown, it is expected that Collins and Franceschini will return, as will the show’s core cast of Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Camille Razat (Camille), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie).
Rumours also began to swirl in August 2024 that Sex And The City stalwart, Kim Cattrall, could also make a cameo in the fifth season. In an interview with IMDb, Bravo, who plays French cook Gabriel admitted that he and several of his fellow cast members have been ‘manifesting’ for Cattrall to join Emily in Paris.
‘We’ve been talking about – earlier – about having Kim Cattrall, manifesting her presence on Emily in Paris,’ the actor said when discussing which show he’d like to crossover with.
When will ‘Emily in Paris’ season five be released?
An exact release date is, as yet, unknown but it is understood that the series will enter production in 2025 so hopefully we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out what happens to our favourite Francophiles. Watch this space!
