Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck Have Filed For Divorce After Two Years of Marriage

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s two-year marriage is reportedly coming to an end. Multiple outlets revealed that Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, in Los Angeles Superior Court—precisely two years after Lopez and Affleck’s Georgia wedding ceremony. In the divorce filing, Lopez listed the couple’s date of separation as April 26, 2024.

The move comes after months of breakup rumours. Around May it was reported that Lopez was seen house-hunting on her own, while Affleck was photographed leaving his Brentwood, California, home rather than his shared family home with Lopez.

Affleck went on to move out of the couple’s house. On Lopez’s 55th birthday (July 24), he closed escrow on a new $20.5 million Los Angeles home. People reported.

The couple has been spending their summer on opposite sides of the country, with Lopez mainly in New York and Affleck in California. Neither have discussed their relationship troubles publicly.

Affleck did speak about their differences in Lopez’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, for her project, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, released earlier this year.

The actor reflected on what caused their first split in the early 2000s, saying, “When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the amount of scrutiny around our private life. I had a very firm sense of boundaries, initially, around the press. While Jen, I don’t think objected to it in the way I did, I very much did object to it.”

He also addressed the compromise he made when he and Lopez reconciled in spring 2021: “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.’ And then I sort of realised it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain, and like, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’ We’re just two people with different approaches, trying to learn to compromise.”
