When I had the chance to chat with him over an early morning Zoom call—just after finishing Episode 2 of Dune: Prophecy—I knew I had some burning questions. We talked about his serendipitous start in acting, his experience joining the iconic Dune universe, and, of course, his thoughts on being crowned the internet’s newest boyfriend.

A Journey from Modelling to Acting

Heuston’s path to acting wasn’t one he had always planned. Growing up, he didn’t dream of being on screen. Instead, his foray into acting came unexpectedly. “My acting journey started kind of randomly,” he shares. “I didn’t set out to be an actor. I booked a job for a music video, and I had to do the smallest bit of acting—just walking across a field, following a girl, and expressing different emotions. That was my first experience with acting, and it really hooked me.”

That initial spark led him to dive headfirst into the craft. He juggled university during the day and acting classes at night. “I’d go to uni, then head to acting school after. It was a crazy schedule, but it was all I focused on for a while,” he recalls.

From Fantasy to Drama

The actor’s inspirations have evolved. “As a kid, Lord of the Rings was a huge inspiration. Characters like Legolas and Aragorn were so captivating to me,” he says. As he grew older, his tastes shifted towards drama. “Movies like Moonlight and Babyteeth really resonated with me. Those types of stories had a big impact on my journey as an actor.”

His time as a model also played a part in shaping his acting skills. “Modelling gave me experience in front of the camera. It taught me how to use body language and understand the technical side of things, like lenses. That definitely helped with the transition to acting.”

The Big Break

When asked about landing his role in Dune: Prophecy, Heuston’s excitement is palpable. “I was so excited! A role like this is rare. With so much lore and an established community, it’s an honour to be part of something so revered.” He recalls receiving the life-changing call while at home. “I was in bed and ran outside to take the call. There’s actually a video of my reaction—I think my manager filmed me. I was yelling, just so excited.”

Heuston plays Constantine Corrino, the Emperor’s illegitimate son, in the Dune series. “At this stage, Constantine is a man trying to find his purpose. He’s fragile, caught between his destiny and his longing for something more. Despite that, his main priority is protecting his sister Ynez played by Sarah-Sofie Boussnina. She’s his anchor, the one person who loves him unconditionally.”

On Set with Hollywood Legends

Being part of such a high-profile project means working alongside some of the industry’s most seasoned actors. For Heuston, that experience was both daunting and rewarding. “When you first book the role, you’re a little intimidated, especially with actors who have so much experience.

But once you’re on set and action is called, all that goes away,” he says. “The moment the cameras start rolling, it’s like you’re back in drama class, just focused on the scene. And I was lucky enough to work with someone like Emily Watson who plays Valya Harkonnen on my first day—she’s nurturing and really helped me feel at ease.”

He credits the collaborative nature of the set for making the experience enjoyable. “I don’t try to actively learn from veteran actors at the moment—I’m just in the trenches with everyone else, doing the work. But you inevitably pick things up just by being around them.”

His Favourite Scene

For Heuston, Episode 5 of Dune: Prophecy holds a special place. “Everything for Constantine comes to a head in that episode. There are powerful scenes with Tabu that I love.” He also fondly remembers his very first scene with Emily Watson. “It was my first day on set, so it’s special for that reason.”

Fans can also look forward to some action from his character. “There’s definitely some fighting involved,” he teases, though he credits co-stars Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (playing Ynez) and Chris Mason (playing Kieran Atreides) for taking the lead in most of the action.

Women of Dune

The series stands out for its powerful female characters, a detail that the star fully embraces. “You can’t tell this story without women—it’s an all-female school and, for lack of a better word, a cult. It’s their story, and it’s great to see it being told.”

Comparisons to Timothée Chalamet

Given the vast fanbase of the Dune franchise, comparisons between him and Timothée Chalamet were inevitable. Josh, however, takes them in stride. “Timothée is an incredible actor,” he says with a smile.

“Any comparison to him is a compliment. I mean, he’s done such a fantastic job with Dune, and I’m definitely a fan of his work. Plus, he’s a good-looking guy, so I’m not complaining!”

What’s Next?

Fans can look forward to seeing more of him in Dune: Prophecy, but he’s also got other exciting projects in the works. “I just wrapped a film called Dangerous Animals earlier this year, which is a thriller. It stars Jai Courtney and Hassie Harris, and it should be out next year,” Heuston reveals. “So that’ll be the next thing you’ll see me in, but who knows—maybe a Season 2 will come soon, too!”

The actor is also open to exploring a range of genres in the future. “I’d love to do something intense and dramatic, like Moonlight or Babyteeth. But I’m also a huge fan of rom-coms—Set It Up is one of my all-time favourites. I’d love to do something in that space, maybe something slow-burn like Normal People. I think that would be amazing.”

Whether it’s another high-stakes drama or a heartfelt rom-com, Heuston’s journey is just beginning, and it’s clear he’s ready for more.
