When Barbie launched the ‘Katrina Kaif’ doll, I think I kept my room clean for weeks at end, just to convince my parents to buy it for me. I had to settle for the regular one though, and that’s something I need to bring up when I start therapy. Kat’s impact on pop culture and fashion collectively, can’t possibly be summed up in a line or two. Her vivacious roles propelled her as a preppy yet laid-back style icon and her love for saris runs strong, even today. The ample Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra sightings are proof.
We had a chance to catch up with Katrina Kaif and discuss all things personal style, her love for watches, and how she tends to gravitate towards simplistic styles and yet harbours a sweet spot for statement looks.
ELLE: How has your personal style evolved throughout the years?
Katrina Kaif: As someone who’s been in the public eye for years, my personal style has naturally evolved alongside my journey in the entertainment industry. Initially, I gravitated towards simpler looks, but over time, I’ve embraced more versatility. I’ve learned to experiment and incorporate trends while still maintaining my love for timeless pieces.
ELLE: Do you remember the first time someone got you a watch as a gift?
Katrina Kaif: I vividly remember receiving my first watch as a gift on my 18th birthday. It was a beautiful Rado timepiece from my parents. The sleek, minimalist design instantly captured my attention and has held deep sentimental value ever since. It marked a new chapter in my life, and I’ve carried that memory with me.
ELLE: Name a fashion icon who’s had a monumental impact on your style.
Katrina Kaif: Audrey Hepburn has always been a major style inspiration for me. Her effortless elegance, timeless grace, and ability to blend simplicity with sophistication have influenced my personal style over the years. She showed that true style is about confidence and being comfortable in what you wear.
ELLE: Which of your on-screen characters would have the best watch repertoire, hypothetically speaking?
Katrina Kaif: If I had to choose, I think my character from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara would have the best watch collection. The film’s focus on life’s fleeting moments resonates with the idea of treasuring time, which I feel aligns with a well-curated watch wardrobe that values craftsmanship and meaning behind each timepiece.
ELLE: What’s your preference when it comes to watch styles? Are you more of a minimalist looks-wise or do you gravitate more towards OTT styles?
Katrina Kaif: I tend to lean towards classic and minimalist designs, with a hint of femininity. For me, simplicity is timeless. However, depending on the occasion, I enjoy experimenting with bold or statement pieces. It’s about finding a balance between understated elegance and something that truly stands out.
ELLE: What does true luxury mean to you?
Katrina Kaif: For me, true luxury goes beyond just owning something expensive. It’s about craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a product that stands the test of time. True luxury is timeless, it’s something that makes you feel special every time you wear it, and that’s what I love about Rado watches.
