At Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 show earlier this year, helmed by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, fashion lovers were treated to a discreet teaser. It is reprising its collaboration with artist Yayoi Kusama and we can’t keep calm. The return of one of the most iconic art x fashion collabs of all time— the Maison’s partnership with Japanese artist Kusama—was indicated through the appearance of her characteristic dots on some of the bags. This was followed by teaser videos posted on the brand’s Instagram page, where again, the theme of dots appeared.
In 2012, the collaboration titled ‘Infinity Dots’ invigorated the luxury fashion world with ready-to-wear and accessory collections, special windows, exhibitions, and even a mannequin that looked uncannily like the artist. 93-year-old Kusama is touted to be one of the greatest contemporary artist of our time. She is known for her widely recognised dots, reproduced in response to the hallucinations she experiences as a symptom of her very public struggles with mental illness, throughout her lifetime.
The new collection will launch in January 2021 as a celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the original collaboration. We can’t wait for our socks to be blown off.
