MET Gala 2024: ELLE India Picks 15 Best Looks From The Biggest Night Of Fashion

MET Gala

MET Gala 2024 just took place at the infamous stairs and our inner critics have already taken center-stage. The attire was inspired by ‘The Garden of Time,’ a nod to the MET’s ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ display, that aims to highlight masterpieces so delicate, they can no longer be worn.

Zendaya showed up in 2 looks *acts surprised,* Lana Del Rey bowled us over with a vintage McQueen, Alia Bhatt donned a custom Sabya sari (the designer too, was present) and Taylor Russell just wore a wooden corset. We need some time to process all of this and soak in the madness of what we call, the MET Gala.

While I get on a call with the authorities to inquire about my missing invite, let’s take a look at our top picks, till then.

Gigi Hadid

Repping Thom Browne (you’re going to see this name pop up quite a few times), Miss Hadid delivered sans any compromise on the theme, style and oomph. Always appreciate a good trail moment at the steps.

Zendaya

This is look 2.0, by the way. It’s Zendaya and this is her territory, co-powered by Luxury Law’s discerning eye for all things pristine. Loving the goth influence on this otherwise fluffy theme.

JLo

The Papi singer opted for a Schiaparelli Haute Couture piece which seems like it’s been tailored by the gods themselves because look at that tailoring! Daniel Rosebery never dissapoints.

Taylor Russel

Thankyou Loewe. Thankyou Taylor Russel. Thankyou Metropolitan Museum. I’ll keep having dreams about this wooden corset and immaculate draping on this skirt. Nothing more, the brilliance is self-explanatory.

Alia Bhatt

Hail a custom Sabyasachi moment, anytime, anywhere. Ornately embroidered and beautifully draped, Alia Bhatt’s sartorial weapon of choice at this year’s MET Gala is nothing but iconic.

Kim Kardashian

MET Gala

Hot take: I really like this look. A refreshingly contemporary take on this theme, otherwise crowded with nostalgia laced influences. Kim K is a MET Gala veteran and knows the recipe to nailing it every single time.

Mindy Kaling

Another feather in the cap for Indian couturier Gaurav Gupta. Mindy Kaling donned an extravagant 3D sculpted masterpiece that seamlessly complimented the theme without going overboard with florals.

Reece Feldman

TikTok boy making big moves at the MET Gala. Feldman took Thom Browne for a spin at the steps and we’re elated to see the skirt and handbag combo.

Ashley Graham

Ludovic de Saint Sernin knows how to make everything sexy. This stunning sheer number borrows from the dominatrix mandate whilst honouring the codes of the event. Ash, you’re the MVP.

Sydney Sweeney

MET Gala

Thankyou for this cool blue shade, almost forgot there were colours other than black, white and nude. Miu Miu really came through with this one.

Emma Chamberlain

Proud of Emma’s ascent from a YouTube star to MET Gala’s host, and now, a full-fledged guest. Her Jean Paul Gaultier number looks like it’s been borrowed from a sepia-toned movie with her playing a vamp. 10/10.

Colman Domingo

This fine gentleman needs more appreciation. Lensed in Willy Chavarria, Mr. Domingo honoured the theme by going the minimalist route, flowers in hand. He’s chivalrous too? Rare.

Harris Reed

MET Gala

Harris Reed wearing Harris Reed, obviously. I’m not religious, but would push through a swarm of equally enamored beings to join a cult, if they ever make one. This is marvelous – the silhouette, print and the headgear. This is what the MET Gala is all about.

Lana Del Rey

Never encountered an archival McQueen moment I didn’t like. While both Lana and McQueen are close to my heart, this ensemble takes all the laurels not because of my bias, but the sheer brilliance of the research and execution.

Rebecca Ferguson

The Dune hangover is real. Again, cheers to this Thom Browne moment, aced effortlessly by the mothership of Lisan-al-Gaib. We bow in accordance to this spirit.
