Shining The Spotlight on Mindy Kaling: The Underrated Preppy Style Icon

BANNER

Mindy Kaling’s talented. She’s writing, acting and directing and she does it so effortlessly, we want in on her secret. Her Netflix hit Never Have I Ever Season 3 has been slated for an August release with the 4th season currently in the works. But the point I’m about to make isn’t pertaining to her Hollywood prowess. It’s about her sartorial choices that includes everything preppy. Yeah, preppy. Right off the bat, one wouldn’t associate the multi hyphenate with Blair Waldorf-core. If you close your eyes and imagine her, there’s a 99% chance you see her in a red carpet gown or the good ol’ classic formals from her The Office stint. But a simple Instagram scouring of her page would present you with what I call The Most Underrated Preppy Icon Of Our Time.

Blush bows are synonymous with a cent percent success rate. And its intermingling with prints as showcased here, earns a brownie point for effortless execution. The pink chunky pumps add a great deal of substance coupled with the Chanel bag and we love!

2. I Have A Billion Dollar Trust Fund

Cottagecore meets equestrian is what I call this look owing to its flirtatious vibe fused with old-school charm. Rosie Assoulin is the label and we’re definitely star marking it for the future. Side swept hair and minimal makeup- immaculate styling is worthy of all the laurels here.

3. Blair Waldorf Who

Leave the tweed suit. It’s lovely, no doubt. She looks lovely, zero doubt about that too. But the stockings? The sheer argyle interjection with the black pointy pumps? *screaming internally* The fashion gods have spoken and said ‘twas a full show.

4. Gingham Geek

A mélange of prints of varying sizes is a great measure of calculated design thinking for which we have the supremely talented Thom Browne to thank, here. The broad belt she paired the dress with, camouflages perfectly yet creates the needed diversion to break the line of vision, thus, making the design visually pleasing.

5. The OG Business B*itch

Personally, I’m not a fan of half and half fabric fusings. But this kind of makes me re-contemplate. The blazer works well along with the length of the skirt, plus the bishop sleeves adding volume does plenty to elevate the look and make it a bookmark-worthy proponent.
