Muses & Makeup: What These Iconic On-Screen Women Would Have In Their Beauty Shopping Carts In 2024

BANNER IMG_20240812_174911_0000

It’s Friday night and I’m in bed binge-watching Dynasty, one hand four inches deep in a tub of popcorn and the other reaching for what’s probably my fourth iced coffee of the day. Meanwhile, on the television screen, Fallon Carrington walks into the room looking like a million bucks, as she always does. Her signature winged eyeliner that seems to be on 24×7, her hair neatly twisted back and her stride sharp as ever. And that’s when the thought crossed my mind for the millionth time, right on schedule, like it does every time I watch the impeccably gorgeous women on screen- what must it feel like to look this badass every waking minute of your life?

So, that brings me to why I’m here. Instead of comparing myself to the women on-screen, I decided to let them inspire me. And of course, I had to come on here to share this burst of inspiration. We’ve all had moments of self-pity and wished we looked like Carrie Bradshaw when we were going to work or like Lauren Conrad going to get her after-school caffeine fix, while we’re out with our three-day-old hair and a zit from Hell that won’t budge. Let this compilation of all your favourite leading ladies’ beauty-matches-made-in-Heaven be the motivation you need to get up, glam up and show up, and not rot in bed like I did on a Friday night.

Mia Thermopolis

Or should I say Princess Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi? I can guarantee she’d love the Benefit Cosmetics 24-HR Brow Setter Clear Brow Gel to keep her gorgeous brows in place through all her princess meetings, this peachy Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip And Cheek Glow to give her face a radiant wash of colour and Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Styler Hairbrush (in their millennial pink colour!) to make her lioness-mane manageable and poofy-proof.

Emily Gilmore

Who can beat Emily at being the ultimate diva? I bet she would’ve favoured a meticulous night-time routine, with the best of French skincare and classy, sophisticated makeup for the daytime. The L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Anti-Aging Serum and Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Eye Serum Capsules would be her nightstand staples, and she would’ve loved to wear Guerlain’s Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick N°03 to all her Daughters of the American Revolution meetings. Her SPF favourite is most likely to be Murad’s City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++.

Blair Waldorf

I think we can all agree that the queen of sass could have easily been the poster girl for Chanel. Her school makeup pouch would most definitely have the N°1 De Chanel Lip And Cheek Balm in Berry Boost for her signature berry-toned lips and flushed cheeks. For the times when all the drama gets to her, I can just imagine her reaching for the Rare Beauty Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist to soothe her nerves. She would absolutely love O.P.I’s Infinite Shine Nail Polish in Raisinthe Bar for that finishing touch on her nails.

Elle Woods

What does the most glamorous lawyer in the whole world carry in her work tote (other than Bruiser the Chihuahua, of course)? Her beauty essentials would perhaps include the Clinique Pop Plush Creamy Lip Gloss (this entire shade range is so up her alley!), Gucci’s Flora Gorgeous Gardenia Eau De Parfum for a sugary sweet refresh of her scent and the Dear Dahlia Paradise Shine Eye Sequins for her favourite glittery pink eyeshadow.

Charlotte York

While everyone’s favourite Carrie Bradshaw made me start watching Sex and the City, I have to say I stayed for Charlotte. That girl knew what she wanted and went after it- the same way I imagine she curated her vanity kit in. The Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Hydrating Radiant Foundation and Givenchy Prisme Libre Setting & Finishing Loose Powder have got to be the secret to her flawless base. The Iconic London Triple Threat Mascara gives her eyes that dreamy flutter that gets Harry every single time. Lastly, as someone who takes her beauty sleep very seriously, Sephora’s Satin Sleeping Mask is her bedtime bestie.

Marissa Cooper

The OG It Girl of the 2000s, Marissa never disappointed us with her Californian bronze glow and blonde hair. So it’s a no-brainer that the Sol de Janeiro Glowmotions Copacabana Bronze Glow Body Oil would be on her at all times, and the Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil Infused Gloss would be her lip hydration of choice. The TIGI Bed Head Serial Blonde Purple Toning Shampoo is essential to keep her golden blonde locks shiny and ready for a beach party.
