Surprised, delighted and insatiable for more. That’s how unexpected hit series, My Lady Jane left us feeling just two episodes in. By the time we’d finished furiously bingeing the ‘romantasy’ show, we’d told everyone and their mothers to tune in, so we’re glad you’re here to listen to our spiel, too.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, the quick-witted series puts a fantasy spin on the classic Tudor tale, to radically reshape the story of Lady Jane Grey, also known as the ‘Nine Day Queen’ due to her short-lived rule over England. Diverting from a historical recounting, the show takes place in an alt-fantasy world where some people can transform into animals, and Lady Jane doesn’t, in fact, lose her head — that’s not a spoiler, we promise.
Already a hit on TikTok, viewers have swiftly drawn parallels between the new show and cult regency series, Bridgerton, with some going as far as to say it gives viewers exactly what they wanted and felt was lacking from season three with #Polin (we agree). With an equally ear-wormy soundtrack and comical narration, it’s a whimsical and fun watch that will have you instantly hooked.
If we’ve not yet convinced you it’s worth tuning in, scroll on for everything you need to know about My Lady Jane.

What Is My Lady Jane Based On?
My Lady Jane is based on the best-selling book of the same name from author Cynthia Hand. The story itself is a reimagining of the true story of Lady Jane Grey, the shortest reigning monarch in England’s history. The great-granddaughter of Henry VII, Lady Jane inherited the crown from her cousin Edward VI in 1553 at just 16 years old in an attempt to prevent the accession of Catholic Mary Tudor to the throne, instead wanting a Protestant in power.
Much of the scheming in the show reflects true events; the King’s protector, John Dudley, did indeed marry his son Lord Guildford Dudley to Lady Jane in anticipation of sickly King Edward’s death and Queen Mary did plot to usurp Jane from the throne by gaining the support of the Privy Council and raising an army to overthrow her just nine days into her reign.
Is There A Season 2 For My Lady Jane?
A second season of My Lady Jane is yet to be confirmed, but given the overwhelming response to the series and calls from fans, we predict it will only be a matter of time before it’s announced.
