new restaurants

Whether you want to treat yourself to the culinary offerings of Japan and Peru through Nikkei cuisine, indulge in European flavours at a fine dining restaurant with a tropical set up, bite into succulent burgers and sip beers with friends, or simply enjoy fresh-outta-the-oven pizza in your cosy room while binging on your favourite sitcom, we have something for you. You’ll like the list of new restaurants, menus and delivery kitchens we’ve rounded up this month. It’s got everything for those who love to experiment as well as those who like to stick to comforting and classic flavours. Bookmark the list ahead.

1. Slink & Bardot, Worli (Mumbai)

The iconic restaurant and bar is back in a new avatar! Instead of French cuisine, expect flavours that derive inspiration from Asia, Europe, Peru and Greece, and classic drinks that date back to the 16th century. All this served in a beautifully-designed space that houses different rooms for your many moods. Helmed by chef AliAkbar Baldiwala, Slink & Bardot’s menu is well-curated with an equal focus on vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Begin with personalised small plates such as Okra & Potato- (Ponzu Okra, Potato & Leek Foam, Pickled Aji Lemon Pepper), Chicken Wing (Goji berries, Fermented berry hot sauce), or Surf n Turf (Chorizo & Prawn stuffed squid, Chili vinegar glaze, Chimichurri). A note-worthy dish is the Chilled Salmon in gochujang served with crispy quinoa in a pond of wasabi buttermilk. For those who think fish and curd don’t pair well, this dish is a game-changer. Head into the large plates with either the hearty Smoked Chicken (Chipotle, Gooseberry & Jerk) or Barramundi (with Colocasia, Mustard, Coconut Carom Seed Sauce, Basil Oil). End your meal on a sweet note with desserts like the Coconut, passionfruit and yuzu tart, or the super soft Cheesecake.

2. Koishii, The St. Regis Mumbai, Lower Parel

Enjoy the harmonious blend of Japanese cooking techniques and traditional Peruvian ingredients through Nikkei cuisine, which is now served at Koishii. The restaurant pays homage to the marriage of cultures and the connection between the words, Koi and Itishi.  Koi  is the act of falling in love and Itishi 愛しい, the deep feeling of doing something for someone you love. Led by Peruvian chef Kinyo, the menu features a variety of dishes with unexpected yet delicious flavours.

Offerings include Mango Ceviche, Lima to Tokyo Tiradito, Watermelon Carpaccio (slow cooked for 8 hours), Machu Picchu 190, Seco Norteño (Lamb Shank), among others. The food here is impeccable. The flavour combinations might take you by surprise but pleasantly so. The tanginess in some dishes was a burst of flavour and we had to go back for seconds. And when you’re not busy stuffing yourself with the lovely meal, enjoy the lovely view of the Mumbai skyline. What we also liked about Koishii’s space is that it has a separate section at the sushi counter for those who are visiting alone. So if you’re on a business trip all by yourself, you can spend some time in privacy here, but the friendly staff will also keep you entertained through conversations.
