Off The Field: Jemimah Rodrigues Loves It When Sportspersons Make Fashion An Extension Of Their Personality

Jemimah Rodrigues

As someone who has navigated the challenges and triumphs of a career in sports, Jemimah Rodrigues emerges as a star both on, and off-field. “Cricket’s been a gift that hasn’t stopped giving. I’ve forged so many special relationships through the sport, it’s given me so many memorable moments and continues to teach me so many life lessons every single day,” she shares.

After Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues also happens to be the second woman to reach a double century in a 50-over cricket match. And then there’s some history with the sport of hockey as well, all at the mere age of 24. Even my parents are proud of her. My special connection with her not only lies in my adoration for cricket in general, but also in her understated sense of style.

Here’s what Jemimah Rodrigues had to say, when quizzed about style, her relationship with the sport and sportspersons she finds fashionable.

ELLE: In what ways do you think platinum compliments the woman of today?

Jemimah Rodrigues: I’ve had the pleasure of working with Platinum EVARA by Platinum Guild India for nearly a year, and it’s been an incredible journey. This brand celebrates the many dimensions of womanhood in all its campaigns. I deeply resonate with the brand’s message that each woman has her own unique journey of self-acceptance and growth, and these are precious milestones for her that are worth recognising and celebrating. They are her unique stories of strength, resilience, courage and love. During this time, what has been truly fascinating is also learning about platinum’s rare and resilient nature as a precious metal.

As one of the rarest metals on Earth, its qualities of strength and rarity perfectly reflect the essence of today’s women. Jewellery crafted from platinum beautifully complements and enhances the strength and elegance of modern women, making it a wonderful choice to celebrate their remarkable journeys. Platinum jewellery is also extremely versatile with a variety of unique design options- right from necklaces to bracelets, earrings and even rings! Thus, every woman is sure to find a piece of platinum jewellery that reflects her individuality and makes a unique style statement.

ELLE: What jewellery styles do you prefer – are you more of a minimal girl or gravitate towards maximalism?

Jemimah Rodrigues: I have always been a fan of minimalist jewellery. Sleek and delicate pieces of jewellery can really enhance all types of outfits without overpowering them. The subtle elegance of platinum jewellery aligns perfectly with my personal style and Platinum EVARA’s latest collection is perfect for me, both on and off the field. I believe that less can be more, and I love how these minimalist pieces add a touch of sophistication and grace to my look.

ELLE: What was your first big jewellery purchase?

Jemimah Rodrigues: For me, jewellery is not just about making a big purchase but about selecting pieces that truly reflect my individuality and complement my personal style. I see jewellery as a form of self-expression. I love how the right piece of jewellery can make a subtle style statement and hold deep personal meaning, whether it is tied to a special moment or milestone in my life or just something that adds a touch of my style to everyday outfits. That is why I’m also drawn to platinum jewellery.

It’s so versatile, with designs that can easily transition from casual looks to something more formal. Even when I’m on the field, I can wear delicate platinum pieces like earrings that feel like a natural extension of my style, whether I’m in my cricket jersey or dressed up for an occasion by layering bracelets or chains.

ELLE: Who’s the most fashionable sportsperson in your opinion and why?

Jemimah Rodrigues: It’s tough to put my finger on one athlete. We had some iconic styles emerge from the Paris Olympic Games. Serena Williams made some style statements on court, and there is Naomi Osaka who recently turned up in an outfit that’s hard to forget at the US Open. Lewis Hamilton has a quirky taste in fashion, but he seems to pull it off more often than not. David Beckham and Roger Federer keep it simple yet classy. Fashion, according to me, is very subjective. I love it when sportspersons make it an extension of their personality and are comfortable pulling it off.

ELLE: What’s the true meaning of luxury to you?

Jemimah Rodrigues: Luxury is that little escape from your everyday life and its routines. It’s a feeling, a place where you allow yourself more than you otherwise would. Indulging yourself every now and then is a great feeling, almost therapeutic. Most times luxury is being able to enjoy the simpler things in life.
