Kanupriya Tibrewala, founder of luxury kids’ wear brand Panchhi, does not quote this Haiku often but her creations borrow from childhood – its playfulness, its innocence, its laughter – and the memories of the Aangan (courtyard) where all milestones were celebrated and the deepest emotions shared. Paying homage to the bygone years and India’s timeless tradition, Panchhi has launched its new festive wear collection Aangan Winter Festive ’23 recreates the essence of togetherness, celebration, and timeless traditions on pieces of fabric sewn into pretty outfits.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Rajasthan, the collection harks back to the time when creating rangoli was a joy and stringing marigolds as toran for the door was precious. Comprising five mini collections, each narrating a slice of India’s rich cultural heritage, Aangan features vibrant hues, traditional motifs and tidily embroidered designs that tell fascinating stories. There’s the captivating grandeur of a royal procession, outfits with firecracker motifs (a must for Diwali), caparisoned elephants, horses and camels, and contemporary styles and silhouettes inspired by the lotus and the Indian hibiscus.

In Aangan, timeless motifs come alive with hand-embroidered designs in dabka, zari, and mirror work, coupled with Panchhi’s signature bright beads and sequins. No plain beiges and staid browns in Aangan, its palette of vibrant hues is a perfect accompaniment to the festive mood and the euphoria of Indian weddings.

A mother of two, Kanupriya did a brief stint with Goldman Sachs but her true calling lay elsewhere. After joining her family business, Kanupriya’s drive to find high-quality children’s clothing led her to establish Panchhi in 2017. Creating unique designs from her apartment’s spare room, Panchhi’s collections, such as the vibrant Pataka for Diwali and the elegant Haathi-Ghoda for weddings, the brand graduated to a diverse range of ethnic and Western wear for both boys and girls.

Her journey from a small room in her apartment to making a mark in the world of children’s fashion has been remarkable. And there is no bigger compliment for Panchhi than celebrities like Soha Ali Khan and Farah Khan picking clothes off Panchhi’s shelves for their children.

This festive wedding season, let the children wear luxury and nostalgia. Let them carry forward India’s timeless traditions, not only in their hearts but also in their Panchhi outfits.
