The journey of Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta, two luminaries in the entertainment industry, began with shared dreams. From humble beginnings to soaring heights, they reflect on their path to stardom and being partners in real life and at work.
ELLE: Can you share with us how your journey in the entertainment industry began and how both of you got your breakthrough roles?
Ravi Dubey (RD): I started with a television show in 2005 produced by the legendary Dilip Kumar and Saira Banerjee. In fact, the first look test that I gave was at his residence in Bandra (Mumbai). So, I’d say that it gave me an opportunity to soak in that legendary energy.
Sargun Mehta (SM): I got my first break in Delhi, a television show. I was in college at the time.
ELLE: What are some unique challenges and advantages of working together as a married couple in the same industry?
RD: There are no challenges, only advantages. You understand and synergise with the world that your partner is a part of. You know the deadlines and pressures, so there is far more empathy and understanding.
ELLE: What have been some of the most memorable moments of collaboration or on-screen chemistry between you two?
RD: The recent song from our music label, Ve Haaniyaan, was the most memorable because of its reception.
ELLE: How do you support and motivate each other during the highs and lows of your careers?
RD: In times of high, we celebrate each other’s achievements and offer encouragement to keep pushing forward. During lows, we provide support, lending an ear, offering advice, and reminding each other of our strengths to persevere.”
ELLE: What advice would you give other couples considering working together in the entertainment industry?
SM: Just go for it. I keep repeating this quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupry. “Love is not two people gazing at each other, but two people looking ahead together in the same direction.”
ELLE: How has your relationship evolved personally and professionally over the years?
SM: Over the last ten years of marriage and overall 14 years of being together, we have grown up together in every context. We continue to dream big together. It’s a partnership in every context possible.
ELLE: What do you hope audiences take away from your on-screen collaborations and your journey together in the entertainment industry?
RM: I hope that we can be a source of inspiration for people who are looking at us and know that the best partner you could possibly have in your life will always be your life partner.
