Raw Mango’s Fragrant New Estate Takes Over The City Of Pearls

Effortless, enchanting and echt. The new Raw Mango abode in the heart of Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills is a modern paradise of art. At twilight, the store opened its doors to the city in pure Raw Mango fashion. The air filled with sweet notes of fresh rose petals and tuberose complemented the vast space of inspired architecture. Untouched rocks and replicas of 70s sculptures surrounded the pristine white property. A walk around the space will have one taking pauses to appreciate the curation as one looks inside through the large glass windows and then the outside too.

It’s also how Garg intended it to be. “Raw Mango is as much about the outside as it is about the inside” explains Garg when asked about the capacity of his store spaces. “I remember at Angoori Badi which was also my first store in Delhi, a client was buying a sari while her kid was playing outside and the husband was sipping tea. It’s an experience.” Currently across stores, Raw Mango only uses 40% of its space to sell and the rest is home to phenomenal art and architecture. Majority of which is diffused with collectibles from Garg’s design inspirations.

The inside of the store showcases a splendid display of Raw Mango’s vibrant collections, all nestled away behind flaxen wood doors. Each closet opens up to a colourful escape and also holds the latest ‘A Thousand Flowers’ Spring Summer 2023 collection. Hindi folk music, RM’s 10 on display and unfinished make-do furniture pieces come together to tell the artisanal stories the brand celebrates. For instance, the marriage of aluminium with wood to redefine a mid-century seating design inspiration. What’s also new and unique to the Hyderabad store is that it is the first store to display mannequin moulds, rather than actual mannequins. Simply for it speaks to the brand language and its idea of dressing individuals.

As a lover of space, Garg talks about how he marries the regional aspects of a city to Raw Mango’s sense of aesthetic. “The way the Chennai store is inspired from art deco and Chettinad, similarly this house is the mid-century modern strand around which the entire aesthetic was built.” The Hyderabad store launch is one of the first few of many as Garg looks forward to taking on the challenge of opening doors in cities like Taiwan, San Francisco and capturing the city’s essence in his own eccentric approach to a store.
