It’s Rose-Toned Eyelids For The Win!

Rose-toned eyelids

It’s sweet & sexy, it’s girly, it’s fun, it’s fresh. Rosy pinks never go out of style and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon as we’ve witnessed a slew of eyeshadow palettes launched in this gorgeous colour.

There’s so much you can do with rose tones really – be it a fresh soft pink look, a dramatic smokey rose eye, or even a full-glam shimmery rose gold look. The wonderful thing about rose-toned eyeshadows is that they are universally flattering, suit all Indian skin tones in their different intensities and are a quick and easy way to brighten up the eyes.

Reeled In By Rose

“I’ve always loved using rosy eyeshadows to create the perfect natural, subtle look,” says Mallika Jolly, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Hairstylist. She notes that in India, the trend of rosy pinks on the lids picked up a lot more around the time that pastel pink lehengas became big when Anushka Sharma and Neha Dhupia donned these for their weddings.

She adds that when it comes to Indian skin tones, rosy shades work across all tones. Lighter skin tones can opt for softer, more muted pinks and work in darker edges for a smokey look, while deeper skin tones can flaunt darker mauves and brighter pinks that flatter this tone.

Pink Pairings

If you’re wondering what kind of lips and cheeks go well with pink lids, fret not, because there’s a lot you can work with!

Celebrity Makeup Artist Savleen Manchanda says she prefers the monotone look when it comes to pinks. “If I’m doing a soft pink eye look, I like to tie it in with a soft pink lip as well. I feel like it complements the whole face and looks seamless.”

On the other hand, Mallika prefers to cut the monotone with nude lips. “I prefer using an MLBB shade for this look or a pinkish nude.” She adds that alternatively, if you’re going OTT with your hair and outfit, and are confident you can carry it off, then go ahead and experiment with bold lips like oxblood or a pop pink to pair with a paler eyeshadow.

So, the only rule when it comes to rosy lids is that there are no rules! We can live with that.

Pause Before You Pink

A big concern while wearing pink and rose-toned eyeshadows though, is how does one avoid the pinkeye (aka conjunctivitis) look? Or one that looks like you’ve been bawling your eyes out all night? Ugh!

To start with, a good idea is to avoid using the colour in your waterline as this can make you look ill. Savleen points out, “It depends on how you’re using the eyeshadow. It has to be blended very well and diffused nicely. Also, instead of using a harsh black liner, you can go with brown – be it a brown eyeliner, kohl or eyeshadow even.” So, a soft wash of brown on the lids with a rose eyeshadow can make you look fresh and healthy, instead of the other way around.

Because brown and pink work together beautifully and give the eyes a softer look, you can also opt for brown mascara over black. Which brings up another pro tip – always, always top off your rosy eye look with a volumizing mascara for fuller, healthier lashes. This will definitely keep you from looking like you have pinkeye!

Rose-Toned Eyelids? Yes please!

So, do rose-tone eyeshadows work better for day or night dos? Savleen says, “Nowadays it’s all about the ‘less is more’ trend, so I’d primarily use pinks and rose tones for the day and keep it very fresh and soft. But if you do want to take it into the night, you can easily glam it up with some shimmer.”

Mallika adds, “You could create a soft look for the day or even a dramatic one for the night using the same palette.” A rose-toned palette can thus be a great addition to your makeup vanity, because it can be worn in so many ways, she feels. Now isn’t that music to a makeup lover’s ears?
