If you don’t know who Hoyeon Jung is, I can’t help but be a little offended on her behalf.

In case 2021 passed you by in a haze (which it did to a lot of us, TBH) and haven’t heard of the blockbuster Korean drama series Squid Game or have simply forgotten about it, let me remind you. Once in a while, we are graced with a plot like this which is so compelling and moving that it raises the bar for all other stories we sought for entertainment after it.

Although some of the actors were popular in their country, they became worldwide stars post the release of this show because of how great their performances in it were. Hoyeon Jung is one of these talented artists and honestly, she is the gift that keeps on giving.

In fact, her performance in Squid Game earned her quite a few awards with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series being one of them. Having her roots in the modeling world, she already knows how to make heads turn and we might get whiplash from how often she does it. It seems like she is just one of those people that can carry off any look with such nonchalance and poise that it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing it as well as her.

She started working as a model in South Korea at the young age of 15 and has had quite an impressive run in the last 12 years or so. Her Paris Fashion Week debut in 2017 left an undeniable imprint on our minds. Although Louis Vuitton’s collection was quite remarkable on its own, I don’t think anyone else could have pulled off that flaming red hair with the aplomb that she did.

Her relationship with Louis Vuitton has given birth to some eclectic looks. One of them was her outfit at this year’s Met Gala which in its simplicity was not in line with this year’s theme but the fabrics and styling were done so tactfully that it was hard not to appreciate the whole ensemble.

Recently, her Calvin Klein campaign has garnered a lot of attention and she definitely fits right in with the brand’s aesthetic of casual sex appeal. There’s no denying that the woman has unbounded range when it comes to modelling.

And I can’t not mention the Adidas campaign. I mean, just look at her!

You thought I’m done? Not quite yet. Every popular figure knows that being in a music video is one of the most exciting things on the bucket list of fame. The Weeknd uses Hoyeon’s delicate features and striking but subtle aura to his advantage in the video for his song “Out of Time”.

Although there’s a very slim chance of her being in the second season of Squid Game which has officially been confirmed, her fans are dying to see her on-screen again. Lucky for them, that is not the only project she is set to be featured in. The international icon is set to star in an A24 movie The Governesses as well as work opposite Cate Blanchett in an upcoming series on Apple TV.

Besides seeing Hoyeon play her roles in an effortless but powerful way, everyone is also perpetually looking forward to new modelling projects she undertakes and how she balances the two. It isn’t an easy feat but if anyone can do it, it’s her. After all, if she survived the Squid Game, she can survive anything, right?
